Blessed are you LORD our God, King of the Universe

Father,

My own journey has taught me that your Spirit is wild and untamable. He goes where He chooses and He works in his own time, though I believe always for your glory (e.g. John 3:5-8). That said, Lord, I also know that if we truly believe in the saving work of your Son, our Lord Jesus, you have promised to indwell us with that same Spirit that we may ever walk in your presence (e.g. 1 Cor. 3:16; 2 Ti. 1:14; Eph. 2:22; 1 Jn. 3:24); that we may ourselves be the Temple which contains your Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19-20); that we may have access to your very mind (e.g. 2 Cor. 15-16); that through the presence of your Spirit we may know once more, here and now, the joy of walking with you in the cool of the garden, even as we await, in hope, for the consummation of your kingdom and the full revelation of your everlasting reign (e.g. Rev. 19-21).

Lord, Jaci and I dedicate our son to you today with these truths and these promises at the forefront of our hearts and minds especially as we remember that this small baby, even so fresh from the womb, is already a sinner (e.g. Psalms 51). It is his nature, and such are we all. Yet, your grace is big enough to cover even the gravest of offenses. So Father, let Desmond know this grace. Draw near to him; draw near to us as a family. Fill him, even now, if it be your will, with your Holy Spirit. Let him know your presence and drink freely from the font of your company. Guide his footsteps, even before he takes his first ones. Give him a sense of vocation, and a passion to serve you. Give Jaci and me wisdom, ability, self-control, and willingness to do our part in seeing these hopes realized.

Here is our son, Lord. We offer him to you.

Glory be to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, so it is now, and so it shall ever be. World without end, Alleluia!
